Sometimes known as James the Less, the disciple we are discussing this week really doesn't have much fanfare or legend associated with his name. We know he was a disciple of Jesus, and we know that he was a man of God. That may not seem very impressive if we compare his resume to that of the other disciples or heroes of our faith...but that is what makes this lesson so special! When it comes to the work of God, yes there have been and will continue to be great leaders and standout personalities that perform wonders you and i could never dream of. however, some of the most important work is done by the invisible yet faithful foot soldiers of God. When we, like James, listen to the Lord and quietly follow His commands, we are actually having a huge impact on the world! So the next time you find yourself saying "what gifts do i have to offer, what makes me special?", remember James, and remember how powerful the simple witness of a faithful life can be.
Got another great one for you! Cal talks about one of the all time great turnarounds in history...Matthew. Now we all know Matthew was a tax collector, which may not seem so bad. If you take a look at who these people were in Jesus' time...well...there really wasn't a group more hated, more crooked, more greedy than these. Some people would say they were completely un-redeemable! When Jesus saw Matthew, He didn't see the sin in the man, he saw a lost child of God that needed His help. Looking back some thousands of years later, it's a good thing He did, because the gospel of Matthew gives all of us a truly amazing insight into the life and teachings of our Lord! So remember, if something is holding you back from giving yourself to the Lord...look at what He did with Matthew, and know that he can do the same with you!
morning everyone! getting your digital Sunday ready a little earlier than usual today...me and the girls are off to the Great Wolf Lodge for a little family vacation! I told Riley this morning we needed to start our vacation right, we need to start it with the Lord. Anything you want to go right needs to start and end with Him!
Speaking of which, we have our musical offering for you today courtesy of Voices for Him and the CBC Coffee Hour! Our buddy Tim Lawrence is back there supporting us on the drums. Hope you like it!
So happy to get back into our series "The Twelve"...fantastic journey so far! This week Cal talks about James son of Zebedee. One of the sons of thunder, and a disciple that was truly all about God. The thing that stuck out about James is how enthusiastic he was for the Lord. He knew that the most effective way for us to share the Gospel is to truly live it each and every day. Shout it out! Be proud! The one who saved us all is standing by your side right now...show the world what that does to your mind, body and soul. God bless, see you next week!
Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for joining us in digital worship! We're kicking off today with a couple offerings from Voices for Him...first up, I'll Fly Away. It's a special tune for us since it's one of the first ones we ever played at Central Baptist. Big thanks to our good friend Paul Johnson for kicking things off so many moons ago. God bless, hope you enjoy our roots revival!
I promise this isn't a repost of that old saturday night live bit hahaha! Our good friend Mr. Paul Johnson is standing in for Cal this week while he's at a conference. Paul brings us a great message about the amazing power of love. Join us as he shares some personal and powerful testimony about faith, hope and the greatest commandment of all.
Back to our series on the Twelve Apostles! This week we're taking a look at Simon Peter...a guy a lot of us can relate to. He always had an opinion, and was never afraid to let everyone know about it (right or wrong!!!). He proclaimed Jesus the messiah before any other disciple, but he also denied Him three times. Maybe most of all we can relate with his walk on the water. When we're with Him, we can do anything, but when we look away we just seem to start sinking. Keep your eye on the Boss, and He'll get you through!
